Stress-Free Exercises While Working From Home

Woman Practicing Yoga at Home | Mishawaka, IN

Here at Jordan Ford, we’re committed to helping you find a simple, easy, and stress-free experience when car shopping. Now, we’d like to help you find this inner sense of calm while you’re working from home. We’ve rounded up some relaxation techniques to help you stay focused and balanced in your life as you enjoy the benefits and overcome the challenges of remote work.

Pactice deep breathing exercises. While it might sound simple, deep-breathing techniques can stimulate the vagus nerve, reduce your heart rate, and lower blood pressure. Start by sitting with your back straight, deeply inhaling through your nose and letting your stomach rise. Exhale through the mouth, pushing out as much air as possible while counting slowing. Aim to breathe from the abdomen, not the chest.

You can also try mindfulness and rhythmic movement exercises. Though an intense workout may not be soothing, basic exercise such as walking, swimming, and biking create a flow of repetitive movement that can gently stimulate your body and trigger a relaxation response. Don’t focus on burning calories; instead, pay attention to the repetition of the movements.

Progressive muscle relaxation is another technique to practice. This two-step process requires you to tense a muscle and then completely relax that same muscle. Try starting with your toes, then working your way up through the muscle groups, finishing with your neck and head. The key is to focus your attention and take it slow. You can also combine muscle relaxation with deep breathing for added stress relief.

How to Celebrate Independence Day at Home in South Bend This Year

Little Girl waving Flag | Mishawaka, IN

Though Independence Day will likely look a little different this year, there are many ways to celebrate the holiday from the comfort of home. We’ve put together a few options for you and your family to celebrate the birth of our great nation right here in South Bend.

Watch Fireworks Online: Each year, the spectacular fireworks show held on the West Lawn in Washington D.C. is broadcasted on PBS. The special, “A Capitol Fourth”,usually includes a concert featuring a medley of patriot tunes from famous musicians. This year’s special is still on the schedule, but past years’ displays are available to stream on the PBS website, if the 2020 event does end up being canceled.

Cookout: While hosting a huge shin-dig is off the table this year, you can still have a fun cookout in your South Bend backyard for your family. Grab some hot dogs and hamburgers for the grill, then task your littlest helpers with creating side dishes. Cooking dinner as a family is an excellent bonding experience.

Crafts: In the days leading up to Independence Day, you and your family can collaborate on some fun crafts to keep you entertained and to decorate your home patriotically. From pinwheel hair ties to red, white, and blue slime, there is no end to the opportunities for crafty creativity in honor of America.

Jordan Ford wishes you and yours a happy Fourth of July! Remember to contact us with any questions you might have about your Ford.

3 Family Fun Games to Play at Home

Family Playing Outside Together | Mishawaka, IN

Spending more time at home with your kids this season can be rewarding and challenging. If you’re looking for new activities to freshen up your routine, here are a few of our favorite family-friendly games to play at home.

Lawn Tic-Tac-Toe: For families with young children at home, playing an easy-to-understand game of lawn tic-tac-toe can help little ones learn about strategy and help improve motor skills. The game can be easily assembled using materials you already have at home like Popsicle sticks, string, and circular objects.

Bean Bag Bowl Toss: Using large mixing bowls, bean bags, tape, and spare paper, you can create a homemade skee ball game in no time. Simply tape a point value on each bowl, line them up, and toss your bean bag into the container. To help reinforce arithmetic skills for older kids, have them keep track of their own scores.

Water Cup Races: Though you might not be able to visit the fair this year, you can recreate a fun carnival favorite in your backyard. Poke a hole in a plastic cup and thread a string through the hole before tying both ends to opposing trees or fence posts. Repeat this step for each cup “racer,” then grab your squirt gun and see whose cup crosses the finish line first.

Enjoy making memories with your family this summer. And remember to call us at Jordan Ford in Mishawaka if you have any questions about bringing home a new Ford model or maintaining your current one.
